Privacy

Nairobi Life is a game. We keep as little about you as we can, only to run the game, and you can delete it yourself at any time.

What we keep

• Your Nairobian: the name you chose, how they look, your home estate, your in-game shillings and energy, and what you did in the game (jobs, rides, places).
• A cookie that remembers your Nairobian on this phone, plus a second one if you sign in. No ad trackers.
• Share cards: when you share your Nairobian, the link shows your character, name, estate and shillings to anyone who has it. Nothing else. Delete your Nairobian and the card disappears within minutes.
• Your vote for Governor, if you vote: which candidate your account chose that week, so you vote only once. Votes go with your account, and a week after each election only the totals remain.
• A device number, a random number in a cookie, so the public counters (online now, visits) count each phone once. We keep only a scrambled version of it, for up to 48 hours; after that only the day's total remains. See how we count.
• Your email, only if you save your progress to an account, so you can log in on another phone.
• Network addresses, to stop spam: scrambled and deleted within a day.
• Your login session, if you sign in: it remembers the network address and type of device you signed in from, and is deleted when it ends (after 7 days without playing, or when you log out).

How long

• Guests who don’t play for 90 days are deleted automatically.
• Accounts are kept until you delete them.
• A deletion removes your data from the live game straight away. After that we keep only a random reference number for a year, as a record that it happened. Nothing that identifies you.
• Some copies take longer to disappear: our daily database backups are kept for 14 days; our hosting provider’s server logs (which can include network addresses) are kept for its own retention period; and login emails stay with our email provider, and in your inbox, under their own retention.

Your choices

You can delete your Nairobian below. If you saved it to an account, the account goes too. For anything else, email privacy@nairobilife.app and we will reply within 30 days.
